Pest Control in Axbridge

Axbridge is a small market town sitting at the foot of the Mendip Hills in Somerset. The square at its centre is surrounded by medieval and Georgian buildings and the narrow streets leading off it are full of stone cottages and older townhouses. The River Axe runs close by and the low-lying moors to the west and south keep the ground damp for much of the year. That dampness and the age of the buildings have a direct effect on the pest problems we see here. Rats are the biggest issue in Axbridge. The river and the drainage ditches on the levels give them water and easy routes through the landscape while the older stone buildings in the town centre have plenty of gaps where mortar has crumbled away over the centuries. Rat control in Axbridge is a regular part of our workload and we often find that the problem links back to the drains or to an access point at ground level that has been there for years without anyone noticing.

Mice are common in the older properties too. The stone-built cottages around the square and along High Street have thick walls with voids inside them and mice live happily in those spaces especially in winter. Mouse control in Axbridge means finding every gap and sealing it because in a building that old there are usually more entry points than you would expect. The newer houses up towards Cheddar Road have fewer issues but they are not immune.

Wasps do well in Axbridge in summer. The stone walls and old roof tiles of the town centre buildings offer sheltered nesting spots and we also get called to properties on the edge of town where wasps nest in the ground on the lower slopes of the Mendips.
