Ongar is a small market town on the western edge of Essex, surrounded by farmland and connected to Epping Forest to the south. The town has two distinct halves. Chipping Ongar is the older centre around the High Street with its Norman castle mound and medieval church, while the newer residential areas spread out along Fyfield Road and towards Shelley.
