Coldblow is a small residential area in the DA5 postcode on the border between Bexley and Dartford. It sits on slightly higher ground along the A2 corridor with a mix of inter-war and post-war housing lining the roads. The area has a suburban feel but the nearby Joyden's Wood and the open ground around Dartford Heath bring countryside influences to the pest picture. Mice are a common problem in the houses here and the inter-war construction with its cavity walls and airbricks gives them access points that have only widened with age. During autumn and winter when mice start moving indoors we see a spike in call-outs from this area.

Rat activity follows the green corridors running from Joyden's Wood through the residential areas. Rats use the wooded areas and rough ground alongside the A2 as travel routes and they appear in gardens that back onto these green strips. The drainage under the older parts of Coldblow has been in the ground for decades and any cracks or fractures give rats another way to reach the surface. We regularly check drains as part of our rat investigations here because the source of the problem is often underground.

Wasp nests are treated across Coldblow every summer and the inter-war houses with their generous roof spaces are the most common locations. The soffits and fascia boards on these houses can deteriorate quietly and by the time a wasp nest is noticed the colony may be well developed. Squirrels from Joyden's Wood make their way into nearby properties through overhanging trees and we deal with them in loft spaces throughout the year. Coldblow might be a small area but its position between urban housing and woodland means it sees the pest issues from both worlds.
