Brackley is a small market town in south Northamptonshire, close to the Oxfordshire border and not far from the Silverstone racing circuit. It has grown quickly in recent years with new housing estates spreading out from the old town centre, but the older heart of Brackley around the High Street and Market Place still has the stone-built properties that give the town its character. These older buildings with their Northamptonshire ironstone walls develop cracks and gaps as they age and mice are quick to take advantage. The warm stone soaks up the sun during the day and retains heat into the evening, which attracts mice looking for shelter even before the weather turns truly cold.

The new housing developments on the north and south sides of town have brought a different set of issues. Wasp nests are a regular summer problem in the older properties along the High Street and in the newer estate houses alike, often found in roof spaces, behind fascia boards and in garden sheds.
