Littleborough sits in the upper Roch valley in the Pennine foothills of Greater Manchester, a small town between Rochdale and the Yorkshire border at the top of the M62. The town climbs up from the valley floor towards the moorland above and this geography shapes the pest problems that homeowners face. The older stone-built terraces and cottages along Hare Hill Road and through the original village core have thick walls but plenty of gaps where stone meets timber and where mortar has eroded over the years. The Rochdale Canal runs through Littleborough and Hollingworth Lake is just to the south. Both waterways attract rats, which travel along the canal towpath and the tributaries feeding into the Roch.
