Teddington is a Thames-side town in the TW postcode area of south-west London, sitting between Twickenham and Kingston. The town is known for Teddington Lock, the point where the tidal Thames ends and the river is a central feature. That proximity to the water drives much of the pest activity. Rats live along the Thames banks, around the lock and weir and in the green spaces that border the river. Properties close to the water, particularly along the riverside roads and the streets near Bushy Park, see the most rat activity. The lock area and the riverbanks provide rats with everything they need: water, cover and food from the waste bins and picnic areas that visitors leave behind.

The housing in Teddington is a mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, larger detached properties and some more modern flats. The older houses have all the expected entry points for mice, from gaps around original sash windows to worn airbricks and spaces beneath suspended timber floors.
