Yiewsley is a town in the London Borough of Hillingdon, running alongside West Drayton and connected to it by a shared high street. The Grand Union Canal passes through the area and the Colne Brook and various tributaries add to the water features nearby. All of that water creates strong conditions for rat activity. The canal towpath between Yiewsley and Cowley is a well-known rat route and the animals spread from the waterside into the residential streets and the trading estates along Horton Road and Station Road. The commercial waste generated by the industrial units and the food businesses on the high street provides an additional food source that keeps the local rat population well fed.

The housing in Yiewsley is a mixture of older terraces near the town centre, 1930s semis along the main roads and post-war estates built to replace bomb-damaged properties and accommodate the growing population.
