Hyde Park is one of London's great Royal Parks, covering 350 acres in the heart of the city between Kensington and Mayfair. The residential and commercial properties that border the park face a unique set of pest pressures created by this vast green space in the middle of a dense urban environment. Rats are present throughout the park, living along the banks of the Serpentine, in the shrubbery and around the many bins and food outlets that serve millions of visitors each year. The buildings on Park Lane, Bayswater Road and Knightsbridge that face onto the park see rat activity in their basements and lower levels, with the animals using the drain network to move between the parkland and the built environment.

The properties around Hyde Park are among the most expensive in the world, but value does not make a building immune to pests. The park's trees support a large grey squirrel population and the buildings closest to the tree line, particularly those with period rooflines and decorative parapets, are vulnerable to squirrel entry. Pigeons are a constant presence around the park edges and on the surrounding buildings. The sheer scale of Hyde Park and the volume of people who use it every day means the pest pressures on the surrounding buildings are higher than almost anywhere else in London.
