White City is an area in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, originally built around the exhibition grounds that hosted the 1908 Olympics and now defined by the BBC Television Centre, the Westfield shopping centre and the large housing estates that surround them. The White City estate itself is one of London's oldest council estates, built in 1938-39, with blocks of flats arranged around courtyards and green spaces. The estate's age and design create pest challenges that have been part of life here for decades. Rats use the communal bin areas, service passages and basement-level spaces beneath the blocks to move around. The proximity to Westfield's food outlets and waste management areas adds a serious food source that benefits the local rat population.

The flats on the White City estate and the neighbouring estates have shared service risers, communal drying areas and internal refuse systems that give mice routes between units. A mouse problem in one flat can involve the entire block if the building services are not properly sealed. We work across these estates regularly and the most effective approach is always to combine treatment with proofing of the shared spaces and risers, though this requires cooperation from the landlord or managing agent.
