Malvern or Great Malvern as the central part is properly known, is a spa town draped across the eastern slopes of the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire. The town climbs steeply from the flat Severn plain up to the granite ridge of the Hills, giving many properties dramatic views but also creating a unique set of conditions for pest control. The architecture ranges from the medieval priory and elegant Victorian villas built during the spa era to Edwardian townhouses and modern estates on the lower ground. The Malvern Hills themselves are common land, grazed by sheep and cattle and the springs, streams and wooded gullies that flow down from the hills pass right through the residential areas.

Grey squirrels are abundant in the wooded areas around the town and readily move between trees and rooftops. The Victorian villas with their complex rooflines and multiple gables offer plenty of potential entry points. Wasp nests are common in summer, with the old stone walls and varied roof structures providing ideal sites.
