Midhurst is a charming market town in the western Weald of Sussex, sitting on the River Rother in the shadow of the South Downs. The town has a compact centre with half-timbered buildings, Georgian houses and the ruins of Cowdray House just across the river. The Rother winds through the water meadows to the south of the town and provides the kind of waterside habitat that rats find ideal. Brown rats follow the river banks and move into the gardens and outbuildings of properties near the water and rat control is one of our more regular services here. The polo grounds at Cowdray and the surrounding estate land also provide cover and food for rats during the warmer months.

The housing in Midhurst includes the older town centre buildings, Victorian and Edwardian terraces along the main roads and newer development on the edges of town. The older buildings have the gaps and worn details that come with age, from cracked mortar between timber framing and brickwork to spaces around old window frames and beneath doors. Mouse control is a steady part of our work here, with mice moving in from the surrounding countryside as the temperature drops. The town is relatively small and the countryside is never far away, which means field mice as well as house mice turn up in properties regularly.

The South Downs National Park begins just to the south of Midhurst and the chalk downland and woodland support grey squirrels and other wildlife that sometimes cause issues for the houses on the fringes of town. Wasp nests are common during summer, with old walls, garden sheds, outbuildings and the banks along the river path all providing nesting sites. Midhurst has a settled, prosperous feel and its position in the Rother valley surrounded by some of the best countryside in southern England makes it a lovely place to live.
