Pest Control in Dalton-In-Furness

Dalton-in-Furness is an old market town on the Furness peninsula, once the capital of the area before Barrow grew up around the shipyard. The town is built on a hill around the ruins of Dalton Castle, with stone terraces and older houses lining the streets that lead up to the market place. Those older buildings give mice and rats plenty of ways to get in and around. The stone walls have voids and cracks that develop over the years and the drains under the older streets are aging too. Rats follow the drainage system and appear in gardens and kitchens when there are breaks in the pipework. We carry out rat control work in Dalton throughout the year and the streets in the older part of town near the castle and along Market Street are the ones we visit most.

Mice are common across all of Dalton, from the stone terraces in the centre to the newer estates on the edges of town. The shared walls in the terraces let mice travel between houses and it is not unusual for several neighbours to have the same mouse problem without realising it is connected. Mouse control here works best when it is done properly with proofing alongside treatment, otherwise the mice simply come back through the shared walls. The newer houses at the edges of town still see mice, mainly field mice coming in from the surrounding farmland as the weather turns cold.

Dalton is close to the South Lakes Safari Zoo and while the zoo is well managed, the surrounding farmland and green spaces support wildlife that sometimes causes pest problems for nearby residents. Wasps nest in roof spaces and stone walls through the summer and wasp removal is a regular job for us in the area. Gulls also nest on rooftops in the centre of town during the breeding season.
