Tadcaster is a small town on the River Wharfe in North Yorkshire, known for its three breweries and its handsome magnesian limestone buildings. The Wharfe runs right through the centre of town beneath the historic bridge and the river is central to the pest picture. Rats use the riverbanks, the overgrown margins and the green spaces along the water as both habitat and a route through the built-up area. Properties close to the river, particularly along the stretch between the bridge and the brewery sites, see the most activity. Wasp nests are a summer regular, nesting in the limestone walls, under stone-slate roofs and in outbuildings across the town. The warm stone absorbs heat and creates sheltered nesting conditions.
