Hungerford is a small market town in west Berkshire sitting in the Kennet Valley in the RG17 postcode. The town straddles the River Kennet and the Kennet and Avon Canal, with the High Street running through the centre and residential areas spreading out on both sides. The combination of two waterways running through such a compact town makes brown rats a year-round presence. They live along the riverbanks and canal margins, feeding on whatever the water provides and supplementing it with food from the town centre.
