Lymington is an attractive Georgian harbour town on the western Solent coast in Hampshire, sitting between the New Forest and the sea. The town centre around the High Street, Quay Hill and the marina has a mix of period buildings dating from the Georgian and Victorian eras, with more modern housing extending inland towards Pennington and along the coast towards Milford on Sea. The harbour and the Lymington River create the main pest pressure in the town. Rats follow the river and the saltmarsh channels right into the marina and harbour area and the food waste from the restaurants and cafes along the quay keeps numbers up. The older buildings in the town centre have cellars, timber floors and the kind of aging brickwork that mice find easy to enter. The proximity to the New Forest adds another dimension, as the forest supports healthy numbers of mice and squirrels that drift into the residential areas on the town's northern edge. Grey squirrels in particular use the mature trees along the avenue-style streets to reach loft spaces.

Wasp nests are a regular summer feature across Lymington, showing up in the roof spaces of the Georgian townhouses as well as in garden sheds and garages on the more modern estates. The coastal position also brings seagull problems, with gulls nesting on flat roofs and chimney stacks near the harbour and becoming aggressive during the breeding season.
