Brentford sits where the River Brent meets the Thames and that meeting of two waterways has shaped the town's character and its pest problems in equal measure. The Grand Union Canal runs through the centre, old wharves and warehouses have been converted into flats and the recent development around Brentford Lock and the football stadium has added thousands of new homes to the area. But all that water means rats. The canal towpath, the riverbanks and the old drainage that feeds into both waterways provide a network of routes that rats use constantly. Properties along the waterfront and in the streets closest to the canal are the ones we visit most often for rat control, though the problem reaches well beyond the immediate waterside.

The older parts of Brentford around the High Street and up towards Boston Manor have a mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraces that are prime territory for mice. Wasps nest readily in the eaves and soffits of the older houses and the green spaces around Boston Manor Park and Syon Park mean there is always wildlife moving through the area. Wasp nests in garden sheds and under roof tiles are a common summer call. With the ongoing construction and the disturbance that comes with it, pest activity has been higher than usual in parts of Brentford as animals get displaced from one site to another.
