Spring Grove is a residential area in the TW postcode district between Isleworth and Hounslow in west London. The streets are lined with a mix of Victorian terraces, Edwardian semis and some later additions, many with mature gardens and mature tree cover. That combination of older buildings and leafy surroundings means pests have both the entry points they need and the cover to approach unseen. Mice are one of the most frequent problems we deal with in Spring Grove. The older houses have the usual gaps around pipes, under doors and where brickwork has cracked or pointing has worn away. Mice find these openings without difficulty and once they are inside they move through wall cavities and under floorboards to reach kitchens and food stores.

The area sits close to the grounds of Osterley Park and other green spaces and grey squirrels from these areas regularly make their way into the surrounding streets. Properties with trees close to the roof line are most at risk of squirrel problems, as the animals jump from overhanging branches onto the roof and find ways in through lifted tiles or gaps in the soffit. Once in the loft, squirrels cause damage quickly by gnawing insulation, wiring and stored items. Rats are present too, using the railway lines and green corridors that run through this part of west London as routes between feeding areas. Gardens with bird feeders, pet food left out and open compost bins all attract them. Wasp nests turn up reliably every summer in the roof spaces and wall cavities of the older houses and the gardens are large enough for ground-nesting wasps to set up in flowerbeds and along fence lines.
