Congleton is a market town in the CW12 postcode area sitting on the edge of the Cheshire Plain where the land starts to rise towards the Peak District hills. The River Dane runs along the southern edge of the town and the Macclesfield Canal passes through the eastern side. The town centre has a mix of older red-brick buildings around the High Street and more modern housing on the surrounding estates. The combination of two waterways and a town centre with aging drainage creates plenty of opportunities for rats. The Dane and the canal provide water and movement corridors and we regularly treat rat problems in properties near both. Back gardens that border the canal towpath are particular hotspots because rats move along the water's edge and onto residential land with ease.

Mouse problems are common across Congleton and the older terraced streets near the town centre see the highest numbers. Mice get into these houses through gaps in brickwork and around old window frames. The newer estates on the edges of town are less affected but any building work or development nearby can push rodents into homes that were previously clear. The town's position on the edge of the countryside means squirrels are a regular issue for homes near Astbury Mere and the parks along the Dane Valley. Grey squirrels travel along tree lines and get into roof spaces where they can do a lot of damage if they are not removed promptly.
