Wallsend takes its name from the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall and today it is a busy residential town joined seamlessly to Newcastle along the north bank of the Tyne. The tight rows of Tyneside flats and terraced houses that make up much of the older parts of town around the High Street and Station Road create ideal conditions for rats. Wasp nests are another common call through the summer months, turning up in cavity walls, roof spaces and garden sheds across all parts of the town. The density of housing in Wallsend means pest problems can spread between neighbours faster than in more spread-out areas, so getting on top of things early makes a real difference.
