Eastleigh is a Hampshire town that grew up around the railway works in the nineteenth century and the railway still defines much of its character. The town centre sits alongside the main Waterloo to Southampton line and the housing radiates out in all directions: Victorian and Edwardian terraces near the centre, interwar and post-war estates on the slopes above and newer developments on former industrial land. The railway yards and the commercial areas around the town centre generate waste that attracts rats and the aging drainage system under the Victorian streets provides underground routes for them. Mice are the most common residential pest call from the town.
