Westgate-on-Sea is a small coastal resort in the CT8 postcode area sitting between Birchington and Margate on the north Kent coast. The town was developed in the Victorian era as a quieter alternative to its larger neighbours and the housing reflects that heritage with many period properties near the seafront. The two sandy bays at St Mildred's and West Bay give the town its character but the coastal position also means seagulls are a constant presence. Herring gulls nest on the flat and pitched roofs across the town and their droppings and aggressive behaviour during the breeding season are a source of frustration for residents.
