Chertsey is a north Surrey town sitting on the south bank of the Thames, with the M25 running past on one side and the green spaces of Chertsey Meads and the Abbey River on the other. The town centre has a mix of period buildings along the High Street, while the surrounding residential areas are mainly inter-war and post-war housing with some newer developments. The Thames and the various channels and streams that run through the area make water a defining factor in pest activity. Rats follow the river, the Abbey River and the drainage channels and properties near any of these waterways see consistent activity. Flooding is a periodic issue in the lower-lying parts of Chertsey and when it happens rats get displaced from their bankside burrows and push into nearby buildings. Mice are common in the residential streets.
