Henlow is a village in the flat, open countryside of Bedfordshire, sitting in the SG16 postcode area along the banks of the River Ivel. The village has a mix of older cottages along the main roads and newer housing on the edges, with the former RAF Henlow site nearby adding a different character to the area. The River Ivel is the key feature when it comes to pest pressure. Brown rats live along the riverbanks and the drainage ditches that cross the surrounding farmland and they move into the village readily, especially during the wetter months when water levels rise and push them toward higher ground.

The farming landscape around Henlow means grain stores, outbuildings and field margins all support healthy numbers of rodents. Mice are a year-round issue in the village, with field mice coming indoors through autumn and house mice already settled in older properties where gaps have developed around doors, pipework and at the junction of walls and floors.
