Crowborough is the largest town in the Ashdown Forest area of East Sussex, sitting on a high ridge with views across the Weald. The town has grown steadily from a small village into a commuter town of around twenty thousand people and the housing reflects that growth: a core of older Victorian and Edwardian properties in the town centre and along the main roads, interwar and post-war estates on the slopes and newer developments filling in on the edges. The surrounding heathland and forest bring countryside pests right to the edge of the built-up area. Mice are the single biggest pest issue in Crowborough. The older houses have suspended timber floors and aging brickwork full of gaps, while even the newer homes can develop mouse problems if there are fields or woodland nearby.
