Sevenoaks is one of the wealthiest towns in Kent, sitting on the greensand ridge of the North Downs with the deer park at Knole House as its centrepiece. The town has a busy High Street, excellent schools and a mix of large period houses, Victorian and Edwardian properties and some newer developments. The Knole estate, with its ancient trees and parkland, is home to deer, foxes and a large population of grey squirrels that regularly cause problems in the surrounding houses. Rats live in the park and along the watercourses that flow down from the ridge and they move into the residential streets from there. The older houses along the roads bordering the park see the most activity.

The large period properties around Vine Court Road and along the roads towards Riverhead have cellars, old walls and mature gardens that give mice plenty of ways in and places to shelter. The Edwardian terraces closer to the station also see mouse problems, with gaps in brickwork and around old sash windows providing the entry points. The restaurants, cafes and food shops along the High Street and London Road produce waste that supports a rodent presence in the town centre and the drains beneath these older streets are not always in the best condition.

Wasps nest in the roof spaces and wall cavities of properties across Sevenoaks every summer and the Knole parkland and the large gardens provide excellent foraging. Squirrel control is one of the most common requests we get in Sevenoaks, because the proximity of Knole means the animals are constantly moving between the park and the residential streets. They gnaw through fascias, chew wiring and damage insulation once they are in a loft. Pigeons roost on the taller buildings in the town centre and bed bugs can show up in the hotels and guest houses.
