Ringwood is a market town on the western edge of the New Forest, sitting beside the River Avon where the water meadows stretch out to the south. The town has a proper high street with independent shops and a weekly market and the mix of older buildings in the centre and newer housing estates on the outskirts creates different types of pest pressure. The River Avon is a magnet for rats and the properties along Christchurch Road and the streets closest to the river deal with them more than most. The water meadows flood regularly in winter, which pushes rats up into gardens and towards buildings on higher ground. The forest itself is right on the doorstep and the woodland edge is where rodents thrive.

Mice are common across Ringwood and the older cottages and houses around the Market Place and along Southampton Road have the kind of gaps in their walls and around their doors that mice exploit easily. The newer estates like Moortown and Hightown see fewer structural issues, but mice still find ways in through air bricks and gaps around utility entries. The closeness of the New Forest means there is always a large population of field mice in the surrounding heathland and woodland.

Wasps nest freely across Ringwood every summer, with the forest edge providing ideal foraging and the residential rooflines offering sheltered nesting spots. Squirrels are a real nuisance in the streets closest to the forest, running along branches and getting into lofts where they cause damage to wiring and insulation. The pubs, restaurants and food outlets around the town centre attract gulls in the warmer months too and flea problems can show up in homes with pets, especially after walks through the New Forest heathland where fleas are carried by wild deer and other animals.
