Brighouse is a mill town in the Calder Valley, tucked between Huddersfield and Halifax where the River Calder and the Calder and Hebble Navigation run through the centre. The town grew up around the textile industry and the buildings reflect that: rows of stone-built terraces on the hillsides, converted mills along the river and newer housing on the higher ground. The river and canal mean rats are never far away.
