Pest Control in Leatherhead Common

Leatherhead Common is a residential area on the eastern side of Leatherhead, sitting between the town and the open land of Pachesham Park. The common itself is a strip of rough grassland and scrub and the houses around it tend to be a mix of older detached properties and mid-century homes set in decent-sized gardens. That combination of green space and mature gardens creates the right conditions for a range of pests. Rats use the hedgerows and ditches around the common as routes between the open land and nearby houses and we regularly take rat control calls from properties backing onto the green areas. Bird feeders and compost bins in gardens add to the draw, giving rats a reliable food source close to cover.

Mice are just as common here and the older houses around the common tend to have more gaps and entry points than newer builds. Cavity walls, cracked render and spaces around pipework all give mice an easy way in and once they are inside they move through wall voids and under floorboards. We find that mouse problems in this part of Leatherhead often go unnoticed for weeks because the houses are large enough that a small number of mice can stay out of sight. Squirrels from the trees along the common also cause trouble, getting into loft spaces where they chew through cables and pull apart insulation.

In summer, wasps are a regular issue across Leatherhead Common. The sandy soil patches around the common are ideal for ground-nesting wasps and we also treat nests in roof spaces, wall cavities and outbuildings every year. Wasp removal calls from this area tend to pick up from June onwards and stay busy right through to September. The area is close enough to the centre of Leatherhead that we can usually get here quickly and knowing the local layout helps when tracking down where pests are getting in.
