Little Bookham is a residential village in the Mole Valley area of Surrey, sitting just south of the M25 between Leatherhead and Effingham. The village has a quieter, more rural character than its neighbour Great Bookham, with a mix of period cottages around the church and along Church Road, plus later infill housing from the twentieth century. The National Trust's Bookham Commons lie just to the south, a large area of ancient woodland and grassland that is rich in wildlife. This proximity to wild habitat brings pest challenges that go beyond what you might expect in a typical suburban setting. Grey squirrels are plentiful in the commons and move freely into the loft spaces of houses along the southern edge of the village. Squirrel control is one of the most common calls we get from Little Bookham, as the mature oaks around the commons provide a constant route between woodland and rooftops.

Mice are another regular issue. The older cottages around the village centre have the kind of aging brickwork and timber frames that mice find easy to penetrate and the farmland and common land surrounding the village supply a steady stream of field mice heading for warmer shelter as temperatures drop. Mouse control work in Little Bookham often starts in the kitchen or utility room and traces back to an opening around pipework or a vent that has deteriorated over the years. Rats are less common in the village itself but do turn up along the back gardens that border the commons and along the lanes where ditches and hedgerows provide cover. Wasp nests appear every summer in the older houses and in garden sheds and the sandy patches on the commons also encourage ground-nesting wasp species close to the village edge.
