Buxted is a village in the Wealden countryside of East Sussex, sitting in the Uck valley between Uckfield and Crowborough. The village has a mix of older cottages around the church and the green, some larger period houses and newer builds on the edges. Buxted Park, the old deer park with its hotel, brings an expanse of parkland right up to the edge of the village and the surrounding countryside is a mix of farmland, woodland and the flood plain along the River Uck. The river is the main driver of rat activity. Brown rats follow the Uck and its tributaries and properties near the water or in the lower-lying parts of the village see the most problems. We carry out rat control in Buxted and the surrounding area throughout the year and after wet weather or flooding the calls increase as rats are pushed out of their bankside burrows.

Mice are common across the village. The older cottages with their timber frames and rough brickwork are easy for mice to get into and the surrounding farmland ensures a constant supply of field mice heading for buildings from autumn onwards. Mouse control in these older properties needs careful proofing alongside treatment. Squirrels from the parkland and woodland around Buxted get into lofts where trees grow close to houses and the estate trees in the park are home to a healthy grey squirrel population. Wasps nest in the roof spaces, outbuildings and garden structures every summer and the sheltered spots in the older buildings make ideal nesting sites. Moles are active in the lawns and gardens, especially in the softer ground near the river and the overall mix of parkland, farmland and village housing makes Buxted a place where a range of pests are active through every season.
