Chevening is a small village below the North Downs near Sevenoaks, best known for Chevening House, the grand country residence used by senior government ministers. The village sits in the shadow of the Downs, with the wooded escarpment rising steeply behind and the parkland of the Chevening estate stretching out in front. The combination of ancient woodland, managed parkland and farmland creates a rich wildlife environment and that includes the pests that find their way into houses. Grey squirrels are common in the mature trees around the estate and in the woodland on the Downs and they regularly get into the roof spaces of houses in the village. Squirrel control here means removing the animals and then making sure all entry points are sealed, because the supply of squirrels from the surrounding trees is effectively endless.

Rats move through the estate parkland and the farmland around the village, following the ditches and hedgerows that connect the open land to the houses. The older cottages in Chevening have traditional Kent construction and the gaps that come with age and rats will use these to get into outbuildings and sometimes into the houses themselves. We deal with rat problems across the village and the properties closest to the parkland boundaries tend to need attention most often.

Mice head indoors in the cooler months and the village sees steady mouse activity through autumn and winter. The chalk and Greensand soils around Chevening suit ground-nesting wasps and we treat nests in gardens, banks and roof spaces through the summer. The Pilgrim's Way runs along the base of the Downs right by the village and dog walkers using the path sometimes find their pets bring home fleas picked up from the chalk grassland where rabbits are plentiful.
