Pest Control in Comp

Comp is a small village on the North Downs near Wrotham and Borough Green, sitting in the chalk landscape with views across the Medway valley. The village is quiet and residential, with older cottages and newer houses spread along the lanes that climb the Downs. The chalk grassland, the wooded slopes and the farmland all around create a mixed environment that supports a range of pests. Ground-nesting wasps are particularly common on the Downs here, as the lighter chalk and Greensand soils make it easy for them to excavate nest cavities in lawns, banks and the sides of paths. We treat wasp nests across Comp during the summer months and the gardens and allotments on the lower slopes seem to see the most activity.

Rats move through the farmland and along the hedgerows and properties on the edge of the village where gardens meet open fields are the most exposed. The drainage ditches on the lower ground provide additional habitat and rat control here is a regular job for us. The older cottages in the village have cellars and outbuildings where rats can set up if the building is not well maintained and checking these spaces regularly is always worthwhile.

The wooded slopes of the Downs support grey squirrels that get into roof spaces from overhanging branches and squirrel removal is something we handle at properties along the tree line. Mice come indoors in the colder months from the fields and woodland and the older buildings with their traditional walls and foundations provide plenty of potential entry points. Mouse proofing these properties takes time but gives lasting results and in a setting this close to the countryside it is the only way to keep mice out reliably.
