Isfield is a small village in the Ouse valley in East Sussex, sitting in the low-lying countryside between Uckfield and Lewes. The village has a church, a pub and a scattering of houses along quiet lanes, with the River Ouse and its floodplain running through the valley below. The Lavender Line heritage railway runs through the village and the embankments and scrubby ground alongside the tracks provide additional habitat for rodents.

Summer brings wasp nests in the older rooflines, outbuildings and garden hedges across the village. The sheltered gardens and south-facing walls provide the warm conditions that wasp colonies need to thrive. The woodland along the valley is home to grey squirrels that visit the roof spaces of nearby houses. Isfield has a peaceful, old-fashioned quality that makes it a lovely place to live, but its position in the Ouse valley with water, farmland and older buildings all coming together means pest management is a regular part of looking after a property here.
