Pest Control in Lade

Lade is a stretch of shingle coastline between Lydd-on-Sea and Dungeness, one of the most unusual landscapes in England. The houses here are a mix of bungalows, chalets and converted railway carriages scattered across the shingle, with very little in the way of vegetation or shelter. The open, windswept character of the place might suggest pests would struggle here, but that is not the case. Rats are present around the properties and along the edges of the gravel pits and drainage channels that cut through the area. The lack of cover above ground means they move through burrows and along ditches and they come to buildings for food and shelter. We carry out rat control across Lade and the surrounding shingle.

Mice get into the bungalows and chalets through gaps around doors, vents and where timber cladding has warped or lifted. Many of the properties here were not built with pest-proofing in mind and the harsh coastal weather takes a toll on buildings, opening up new gaps every winter. We deal with mouse control and always check the property thoroughly for entry points, because patching one hole is no use if there are three others the mice know about.

The proximity to the sea means gulls are a constant presence, nesting on rooftops and scavenging from bins and around outdoor eating areas. The mess they leave attracts other pests including flies and smaller birds. Wasps build nests in the wall cavities and roof spaces of buildings here and the lack of large trees means they tend to use man-made structures rather than natural sites. We handle wasp removal promptly. The gravel pits and pools nearby also support large insect numbers in summer, which can bring flies and other nuisance insects into homes. Lade is unlike anywhere else we work, but the pest problems are real and we know this stretch of coast well.
