Pest Control in Moorhouse Bank

Moorhouse Bank is a scattered rural area on the Kent and Surrey border near Limpsfield Chart, perched on the Greensand Ridge with wooded slopes falling away to the south. The houses here are spread along lanes among patches of heath, common land and broadleaf woodland and the area has a very quiet, secluded feel. That woodland is the main driver of pest activity. Grey squirrels are present in large numbers and regularly find their way into the roof spaces of homes along the ridge. Once inside they cause damage to electrical cables, insulation and stored items and we carry out squirrel control in Moorhouse Bank and always seal the entry points once the animals are out.

Mice come from the woodland edge and the hedgerows that surround the gardens, heading for warmth and food in the houses during the colder months. The older properties in this area have more gaps and potential entry points than modern builds, but even well-maintained homes can be caught out around utility connections and air vents. We deal with mouse control here and always spend time tracking down every route the mice are using to get in.

Rats are less common up on the ridge than they would be in the wetter valleys below, but they do appear around properties with compost heaps, chicken runs or bird feeders that keep food available. We provide rat control when needed. Wasp nests turn up in the eaves and roof spaces of houses each summer and the sheltered cavities in older buildings are especially attractive to queen wasps in spring. The heathland and sandy soil on parts of the ridge also mean ground-nesting wasps can appear in garden lawns and borders. Living on the Greensand Ridge surrounded by woodland is a real privilege, but it does mean sharing the landscape with all the wildlife that calls it home.
