Tredegar sits at the head of the Sirhowy Valley, one of the highest towns in the South Wales Valleys with the Brecon Beacons moorland starting just above the town. The terraced streets that make up the older parts of town around the Iron Town Circle, Commercial Street and Georgetown were built during the ironworks era and these rows of stone-fronted houses share walls, drains and back lanes.
