Pest Control in Peterborough

Peterborough is a major city on the River Nene at the western edge of the Fens and its size and variety of buildings create a wide range of pest control demands. The river runs through the city centre past the Cathedral and the Embankment and rats are active along the entire length of the waterfront. The Nene floodplain, the Ferry Meadows country park and the network of lakes at Nene Park all provide habitat for rats that spills over into the neighbouring residential areas at Orton, Longthorpe and Alwalton. The old brick-built streets around the Cathedral quarter and Priestgate have cellars and interconnected spaces where rats have been living for generations.

The city has an enormous range of housing, from the Victorian terraces of Millfield and New England to the purpose-built new town estates at Bretton, Werrington and the Ortons. The older terraces near the city centre have shared drainage and closely packed layouts that make mouse and rat problems difficult to contain to a single property. The new town estates from the 1960s and 70s have cavity walls and flat or low-pitched roofs that give mice easy access to wall spaces and roof voids. More recent developments at Hampton, Stanground and the Great Haddon area were built on flat farmland and go through the settling period where rodent activity is high as the animals displaced by construction look for new territory.

The commercial and industrial areas along the Bourges Boulevard corridor, at Fengate and around the Serpentine Green retail park generate waste that needs careful management to prevent pest problems. Bed bug cases have increased in the city centre and the more densely occupied residential areas in recent years. Wasp nests are common right across the city through summer and the flat fenland to the east supports huge numbers of agricultural rodents that move toward the city after harvest each autumn.

Pest control is the management or removal of unwanted pests such as rodents, insects, birds or other wildlife that invade homes or businesses. It involves inspection, identification of pests and tailored treatment solutions to eliminate or prevent infestations. Professional pest control companies use methods like traps, bait, insecticides and preventive measures to ensure long-term protection.
The cost of pest control depends on several factors, including the type of pest, the severity of the infestation, the size of the property and the treatment required. We offer tailored solutions to suit your specific needs. Contact us for a free quote.
Professional pest control is more effective, safer and longer-lasting than DIY methods. Experts can accurately identify pests, use advanced techniques and prevent future infestations, saving you time and money in the long run.
The frequency of visits depends on your situation. For severe infestations, a pest technician may need to visit multiple times to ensure complete eradication. For ongoing prevention, quarterly or bi-annual visits are often sufficient.
The most common methods include:
  • Chemical Treatments: Using insecticides and rodenticides to eliminate pests.
  • Traps and Baits: For rodents and insects like ants or cockroaches.
  • Physical Barriers: Sealing entry points to prevent pests from entering.
  • Heat Treatments: Heat treatments are effective for bed bugs and certain insects.
  • Biological Control: Using natural predators such as falcons or solutions to control pest populations.
We handle a wide variety of pests, including:
Our pest technicians use a combination of methods, including traps, bait stations and rodenticides. They also identify entry points and advise on sealing them to prevent re-entry. Long-term solutions may include habitat modification to deter rodents from returning.
Yes, when carried out by professionals. We use products that are safe and approved for domestic use. Our team provides detailed aftercare instructions to ensure the safety of your family and pets.
Both options are available for businesses and residential customers. One-time services can suit immediate infestations, while regular contracts provide ongoing protection and help prevent future issues.
Yes, we provide treatments for silverfish and other small insects. Treatments typically involve insecticide sprays, dusts or traps and include advice on reducing dampness and humidity, which attract these pests.
Bed bugs and fleas require specialised treatments, such as heat treatments, steam applications or targeted insecticides. These methods ensure effective eradication of these persistent pests.
In most cases no preparation is required, however for some treatments preparation may include:
  • Clearing access to areas requiring treatment, such as skirting boards or cupboards.
  • Storing food, utensils and personal items safely.
  • Cleaning floors and surfaces to ensure effective application of treatments.
  • Following any specific instructions provided by your pest control specialist.
Your pest technician will advise you if any preparation is needed before your treatment. Contact us to arrange a visit.
This depends on the type of treatment. For most treatments you do not need to leave your home. For pest control services such as fumigation our technicians will advise you when it will be safe to return based on the specific products used.
When applied correctly by trained professionals, pest control chemicals are safe and approved for use in homes. We take every precaution to minimise exposure and provide guidelines to ensure your safety.
Several factors impact the cost, including:
  • Type of pest and size of the infestation
  • Size and type of property
  • Methods and products required
  • Frequency of visits
Pest controllers use targeted treatments, including gel baits, insecticides and traps. They focus on areas where cockroaches hide, such as cracks, crevices and dark, damp spaces. Proper sanitation is also crucial for effective control.
Yes, we offer eco-friendly pest control solutions that prioritise minimal environmental impact. These include non-toxic treatments, traps and preventive measures.
Non-chemical methods include:
  • Physical barriers and sealing entry points
  • Heat treatments for bed bugs
  • Ultrasonic repellents
  • Traps and bait systems
  • Biological control using natural predators such as falcons.
