Peterborough is a major city on the River Nene at the western edge of the Fens and its size and variety of buildings create a wide range of pest control demands. The river runs through the city centre past the Cathedral and the Embankment and rats are active along the entire length of the waterfront. The Nene floodplain, the Ferry Meadows country park and the network of lakes at Nene Park all provide habitat for rats that spills over into the neighbouring residential areas at Orton, Longthorpe and Alwalton. Wasp nests are common right across the city through summer and the flat fenland to the east supports huge numbers of agricultural rodents that move toward the city after harvest each autumn.
