Pest Control in Bath

Bath is a city built on hills, carved from honey-coloured limestone and shaped by centuries of wealth and architectural ambition. The Georgian crescents and terraces that make the city famous also create some of the most challenging pest control environments in the south west. Properties on the Royal Crescent, the Circus and Lansdown have deep basements, interconnected roof voids and solid stone walls with hidden cavities running behind plasterwork. Rats have been part of Bath's fabric for as long as the buildings have stood and the old sewer system beneath the lower town, much of it dating back to the Victorian era, gives them a network of routes that connect to properties across Widcombe, Walcot and the city centre. The River Avon winds through the heart of the city and the Kennet and Avon Canal runs parallel to it along the valley floor. Both waterways attract rats and the towpath between Bath and Bathampton is a well-known corridor for rodent movement. Properties along Pulteney Road, in Bathwick and around the canal at Sydney Wharf often see rat activity linked to the water. Mice are just as common across the city, especially in the older houses on Wellsway, Bear Flat and up towards Combe Down where stone-built cottages and converted coach houses have plenty of gaps for mice to squeeze through. The student population around the university campus and in shared houses off Oldfield Park and Moorland Road adds to the demand for mouse treatments through the winter months.

Bath's food and hospitality scene is a major draw for visitors but it also drives pest activity in the city centre. The restaurants, cafes and independent shops along Milsom Street, Kingsmead Square and the lower end of Walcot Street all need to stay on top of rodent control to protect their businesses. Wasp nests are a regular summer feature, particularly in the stone walls and roof spaces of the older properties across Bathwick Hill and Lansdown. Squirrels also cause problems in the leafier parts of the city, finding their way into lofts from overhanging trees in gardens along the Weston and Newbridge corridors.
