Pest Control in Warminster

Warminster is a Wiltshire market town on the western edge of Salisbury Plain, with the army garrison at nearby Warminster Camp adding a military dimension to what is otherwise a traditional country town. The centre has a handsome collection of Georgian and older buildings along the High Street and Market Place and residential streets stretch out towards Boreham and along the Deverill Road to the south. The older properties in the town centre are built from a mix of stone and brick and many of them have cellars, outbuildings and internal features that make them attractive to mice. The town sits in a hollow with the Were stream running through it and the dampness at the lower levels of town adds to the appeal for rodents looking for shelter.

Rat control is one of our regular jobs in Warminster and the Were stream plays a clear role. The watercourse runs from the lake at Warminster Park through the town centre and out towards the open countryside and rats follow it between the park, the allotments near Sambourne Road and the residential gardens along the way. The surrounding landscape of farmland and the chalk downland of the plain also mean that rural rats are always close to the edges of town. Properties on the Boreham Road and along Imber Road, close to the open country, often deal with rats coming in from field boundaries and farm buildings, especially after harvest.

The army presence at Warminster brings its own pest control requirements and the mix of older barracks buildings, stores and newer accommodation on the camp generates regular rodent work. In the town itself, wasp nests are a common summer feature. The stone walls and old roof spaces of properties around the Minster, the High Street and the Victorian streets off Boreham Road are all regular nesting sites. The mature trees in Warminster Park and along the Deverill valley bring occasional squirrel problems too, usually from autumn onwards when grey squirrels start looking for warm loft spaces to settle in for winter.
