Pest Control in Bradford-On-Avon

Bradford-on-Avon is a beautiful small town squeezed into the steep valley of the River Avon, about six miles east of Bath. The stone-built houses climb up the hillside from the medieval bridge and the old town centre, with narrow lanes and tightly packed cottages that have stood for hundreds of years. These older properties along Silver Street, Tory and the Shambles are full of character but they also have the kinds of features that make mouse control an ongoing job. Stone walls with gaps behind pointing, old timber lintels with cracks wide enough for mice to slip through and roof spaces where original stone tiles sit on rough timberwork with no membrane beneath. Mice find their way into these buildings with ease.

The river and the Kennet and Avon Canal both run through the valley floor and provide routes for rats to travel through the town. The canal towpath between Bradford-on-Avon and Avoncliff is overgrown in places and the banks offer excellent cover. Properties on the lower parts of town near the river, around St Margaret's Street and the Lamb Yard area, are most exposed to rat activity coming off the water. The tithe barn and the allotments alongside the river also attract rats where food scraps and compost are available. As the town slopes uphill towards Winsley Road and Trowbridge Road, rat problems become less frequent but mice remain constant in the older stone houses at every level.

Summer brings wasp nests into the picture. The sheltered stone walls, old garden outbuildings and undisturbed roof spaces that give Bradford-on-Avon its charm also make perfect wasp nesting sites. We treat nests here from June through September in locations ranging from listed buildings in the town centre to more modern houses up on the Winsley and Holt Road. The surrounding countryside also means that rural pests like moles and squirrels occasionally need attention on properties with larger gardens at the edges of town.
