Eastbourne is a large seaside town on the Sussex coast, sheltered by the chalk headland of Beachy Head and spread across the flat ground between the South Downs and the sea. The town has several distinct areas. The seafront and the Devonshire Quarter have grand Victorian and Edwardian hotels and terraces, the Old Town further inland has a more village-like character and the residential suburbs of Langney, Hampden Park and Willingdon stretch north and east across the coastal plain. Rats are a ongoing concern across Eastbourne, driven in part by the Victorian drainage that serves the older parts of town. The sewers beneath the seafront hotels and the terraces along the Meads and Upperton Road area are over a century old and damaged sections give rats access to the buildings above. The Princes Park lake and the Horsey Sewer, a drainage channel running through the east of the town, both attract rat activity along their banks.

The older properties in the Meads, Old Town and along the seafront bring mouse problems that are often complicated by the size and age of the buildings. Large cellars, service voids behind panelling and multiple floors with interconnected pipework create plenty of places for mice to nest and travel without being seen. The newer estates at Langney and Hampden Park are tighter builds but still see mice coming in from the surrounding green spaces, especially Hampden Park itself and the open ground along the Horsey Sewer. Blocks of flats across the town also generate regular mouse calls, with shared risers and service ducts allowing mice to move between floors.

Seagulls are one of Eastbourne's most complained-about pest issues. Herring gulls nest on rooftops across the town centre and seafront from April to August and the noise, mess and aggressive behaviour during nesting season cause real problems for businesses and residents. Wasp removal is another summer staple, with the chalk downland above the town and the warm sheltered gardens of the Meads providing ideal wasp territory. Bed bug calls have also increased in Eastbourne in recent years, linked to the high turnover of holiday accommodation and guest houses along the seafront.
